He is married to Puan Sri Hoong May Kuan. All his six children are barristers and they are currently helping in his business. The six children are Lee Yeow Chor, Lee Yeow Seng, Lee Yoke Ling, Lee Yoke Har, Lee Yoke Hean and Lee Yoke Hui. The eldest son Lee Yoke Chor was a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IOI Corporation Berhad in year 2014 and he is currently a Non-Executive Director of IOI Properties Group Berhad and Bumitama Agri Ltd respectively. While his younger son, Lee Yoke Seng, was a Chief Executive Officer on 8 January 2016. He is currently working as a non-independent Non-Executive Director of IOI Corporation Berhad.

Tan Sri Dato Lee Shin Cheng’s ancestors are from China and he considers China as his second hometown. His quote: No matter where you are, you must not forget your roots. He recalled his memories that his parents once sold their rubber plantation to support China in their fight against Japan. He made some contributions to China such as paving roads, building bridges, protecting heritage sites and several other good arts. He always taught his six children to love their country. They have the mentality always remember their roots, which originated from China. He was awarded in 2005 with “Fujian’s Public Welfare Outstanding Contribution Award”.
